FLORATHON
2013
Three cheers for ACS Ipoh! Once
again, for the third time now, ACS achieved a Malaysian record. This time we
worked with nature and produced a record-breaking formation with 31000 plants,
from four different species. The formation, which consisted of a huge hibiscus,
the letters ‘ACS Ipoh’ and the theme ‘Let’s Green The Earth’, was declared the
largest plant formation in Malaysia’s history by Dato’ Dr. R. Subramaniam a/l
Rama Naidu, the representative of Malaysia Book of Records on the 29th
August 2013 during an official recognition ceremony. We ACSians were proud to
have Ipoh Mayor Datuk Roshidi Hashim to officiate the ceremony. Besides the
Mayor, all teachers and students were also elated to welcome Tuan Haji Muhamat
Roli Bin Haji Hassan, the Director of the Perak State Education Department,
Tuan Haji Marazlen @ Mar Azlan Bin Amran, the Kinta Utara District Education
Officer, Mr Sri a/l Sankaran, an officer from the Kinta & Kampar
Agricultural Department, principals and other guests of honour from the Board
of Governors, the ACS Alumni and PTA as well as parents. After the last pot was
placed in the formation by the Mayor, all waited with eagerness for the result
of the 10-month school project. Just at the moment Dato’ Dr. R. Subramaniam made
the announcement that ACS achieved a record,
defeaning cheer rose from the crowd on the field. A formation of
airplanes which was preparing for the National Day celebration passed by just
at that moment as if to celebrate together with all present. It was truly an
appropriate ending for that day. To make the day even better, Mr. Rodney Lee
from Sunrise Palace Sdn. Bhd. presented a mock cheque of RM12000 for the plants
in the formation. He also made the Mayor very happy when he promised to send
5000 plants to the Ipoh Railway Station. At last, Florathon 2013 had ended, but
the valuable experience would be cherished in the heart of each and every
ACSian throughout time.
